Water Powered Automobile

26 07 2008

The engineers and researchers around the world are developing new and renewable sources of energy and power. While I was discussing about the renewable sources of energy and their implementation into automobiles with Faiz, it just struck to us “Can power cars with water rather than the polluting fuels?”

We discussed more about this during our 1-hour phone conversation. We were thinking how energy can be driven out of water. We thought of the conventional methods of converting Water into Steam and then rotating the armatures using pressurised steam. But then, Where do we extract heat from? Electric Batteries? Solar Systems? Or, running two or more of these parallely?

Then we thought of this – “Lets first power the car with an Electrically charged Battery, when the car is set on required speed, the engine can be switched to water-power-supply. The heat caused by friction between tyres, engine parts, etc. can be transferred to the water tank which will then form steam.” But then such a system would be bulky and unconvenient to use at a steady rate. Also, water needs to be recycled again and again continously. So, we let go of this.

Then we thought of some chemical reactions to generate heat to convert water into steam. For example, the exothermic reactions in which the end products can be converted back to the original forms by using suitable and cheap reagents. But in that case too we realized that the processes would require strong structures and optimum conditions for the chemical reactions to take place which wouldn’t be possible in too cold regions or too hot regions. So we even put this off!

Our conversation ended after a few minutes. But, we couldn’t come up with something sensible and practical enough! But, God Willing, we will invent and develop something new soon! You see, we ‘dare’ to ‘dream’!! DO you?!!
